WHY AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA?

In 1993 Founders of AUN developed a blueprint for the provision of a comprehensive schools system based on the best principles of international practices. The ABTI school system started with a Nursery and Primary school in Yola. By 2002, the second layer of the project, which is the ABTI Academy, was born. And in May 2003, the third element of this comprehensive schools system, the American University of Nigeria (then known as the ABTI-American University of Nigeria), was established. Private Nigerian entrepreneurs founded AUN as the first American-style private University in northern Nigeria. For several years, the Founders of this educational enterprise in West Africa were driven by the need to provide high quality, functional university education, with world-class faculty, facilities and equipment, as well as a peaceful, secure and stable academic environment.

Focus on IT

Advances in information technology have removed the traditional barriers of time, space and geography. IT has redrawn parameters in all sectors of human endeavor. That is why AUN seeks to place greater emphasis on the provision of IT facilities. Every program in AUN will incorporate the latest developments in information technology. On admission at AUN, each student will receive a laptop computer for personal use. Similarly, there will be 24-hour, campus-wide, wireless internet connectivity. A broadband V-SAT facility is already in place.

Faculty & Staff

AUN is recruiting some of the finest faculty and staff found anywhere around the world. Because of the international character of the University, its faculty are expected to come from all parts of the world. World-class facilities and equipment are being put in place to attract the best materials from anywhere. The American University of Washington DC, which has a Management Consultancy Agreement with AUN, is assisting in the recruitment of experienced and competent expatriate faculty and staff for the new University

AUN Structure

The Board of Trustees is the highest authority of the University, which is equivalent to the Governing Council as found in other Nigerian universities. The Chief Executive Officer is the President, and he is in-charge of the day-to-day management of the University. In its inaugural years a team of three Vice-Presidents will assist him namely, Academic Affairs, Finance and University Relations. Other key organs and officers include: the Senate, Registrar, University Librarian, Deans, Directors, School Councils, and Heads of Departments.
