PROFESSOR SALIHU MUSTAFA

He was the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Yola, North-East Nigeria. Before his appointment in 1999, Professor Mustafa has been Director of Research and Post Graduate Development, Nigerian Universities Commission. He holds a 1981 doctorate degree in Civil Engineering from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. Earlier in 1977 he was at the University of Birmingham UK, for an M.Sc in the same field. A first degree graduate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in North Central Nigeria, Professor Mustafa rose to become Reader and Assistant Dean of Engineering at his alma mater in 1987. By 1989, he was already Professor of Civil Engineering and Dean at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria.
He has published over sixty papers in national and international journals. Professor Mustafa is about the only Nigerian who, while serving as Vice Chancellor of a Federal University, headed two independent Committees for the establishment of a private and a state-owned University. He chaired the Planning Committee, Adamawa State University and the Planning & Implementation Committees, Abti- American University of Nigeria. He currently holds the Presidency of the Nigerian Association of Hydrological Sciences, in addition to being Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Academy of Science.
