Fall 2006 September Recruitment Efforts Peak
Yola, Nigeria - (August 15, 2006) AUN recruitment efforts for Fall 2006 September classes reach their zenith in August 2006 with Open House presentations in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Kaduna, Kano and Ibadan. These Open House presentations introduce students and families to the American curriculum and state of the art facilities; the events are hosted by senior members of the university’s faculty and staff.
Dr. Laura Dobson, Director of Admissions, is particularly happy at the success recorded so far in this year’s recruitment campaign. She is optimistic that the university will easily meet its target “if we maintain the same percentage of admitted students enrolled in the university’s first year.”
Similarly, the Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Abba Tahir, is also happy that the University is close to its target. “Our campaign has been more aggressive,” he said, “and more families now know about AUN because of the sustained visibility.”
At each Open House, students and families are given informational packets that contain an Admission Guide, Recruitment News, program posters, and AUN Newsletters. In addition, a power point presentation and The Story of AUN, a video/documentary, introduce the main features of the university, including its purpose, personnel, programs, physical facilities, and aspects of student life.
A popular Open House feature is the question-answer session which allows participants to query university staff about a range of issues, including scholarships, new programs, and student life on campus. Students are encouraged to apply on-line and are also asked to complete sign-in sheets that allow the admissions department to maintain contact with interested parties.
In about two weeks, the university will open its doors for freshmen and launch the school’s second year. The University expects student numbers to double as well as the number of faculty. In addition, the university will move into new accommodation on the permanent campus which was completed during the summer.
