Dr. Norman Wright has been a student and teacher of leadership and management over the past 17 years. Dr. Wright received his academic training from Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Public Administration. He then completed a Ph.D. in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining American University of Nigeria, Dr. Wright served as the Assistant Dean of the College of Business Sciences at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates. He also chaired the Department of Management, Marketing, and Public Administration at the American University of Sharjah, and served as a department chair and faculty member at Brigham Young University Hawaii. In these programs he has worked with multicultural groups of students from Asia, the Middle East, the Pacific islands, Indian subcontinent, and North America.
Dr. Wright is an active trainer, consultant, and personal coach working with such diverse organizations as Dubai Municipality, HSBC, World Wildlife Fund, Valmont International, Polynesian Cultural Center, Hawaii Pacific Health, and the North Shore Community Chamber of Commerce. Further, he has worked with numerous managers from China to develop more effective tourism management practices. Additionally, he and his wife, Dolly, have partnered on several successful entrepreneurial ventures with a recent focus in property development in Hawaii.
Beyond practice, Dr. Wright is actively involved in the generation and diffusion of new knowledge. He served as the editor of the Journal of Microfinance for several years and has published many articles in significant management journals. While he is best recognized for his work in cross-cultural management, his recent research activities have focused more on the nexus of business and the natural environment.
